A Whole New World In Dubai

In February, I took a trip to the city of Dubai. I instantly fell in love with the city. It was a mixture of beach and Skyscrapers – perfection. One of the things I’ve always wanted to do is a Desert Safari. I’m a huge fan of Disney’s Aladdin and seeing the Sand Dunes was a must for me.

I was so scared of getting to the Dunes, because I suffer from Motion Sickness I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy ride. I was even ringing the reception of our hotel to cancel it the day before but, I knew if I did that I would regret it forever as I don’t know when I’m going to get a second chance to do this.

The car pulled up outside our hotel (Sofitel Hotel – Jumeirah Beach) to pick us and a few others up, who were really lovely and we bonded well. They were aware of my motion sickness and were very kind to me, so was the driver. I got in the car and could see there were handles to hold onto – great.  I opted out of the Dune Bashing but you still have to hold onto these bars. We got to the sandy part, and I was in for a shock. I do however still recommend you doing this if you have motion sickness. You won’t regret it. It feels like you’re going straight but then you end up plummeting down the dune. It’s a thrill for those who decide not to go full on Dune Bashing.

It takes about an hour to get there and about 30 minutes on the dunes to the camp.  I was then left whilst the Adrenaline Junkies did the Dune Bashing experience but there were others who suffered Motion Sickness at the camp and I chatted to them for a while. The ride was worth it. It was so beautiful with the market stalls and Camels and rugs everywhere (that looked like magic carpets!) it was just like being in Agrabah!

The jewels and material were all so beautiful they reminded me of Princess Jasmine. The Camel’s were cute too! I didn’t ride them but it was fun watching everyone else and the Camel’s had such character!

As part of our package we received dinner but they were also selling snacks like hot corn on the cobs.

Of course, a trip to the desert for me wasn’t complete without making some Aladdin references. I bought along my little Lamp necklace and took some photos and tried to find the cave of wonders!

The sunsetting in the Desert was one of the most spectacular things I’ve ever seen. Such amazing colours I will never forget it. We also had a Belly Dancer show which was incredible too.

They had Aladdin’s lamps everywhere so of course I had to pick a little one up as a souvenir.
