The Lion King 2019 Cast Announcement

On the 1st November, the full Lion King cast for the Jon Favreau remake was announced. The “Live Action” remake of Disney’s classic film The Lion King, will be released in July 2019. It is my all time favourite Disney film. Jon Favreau, who also directed The Jungle Book, will bring the beloved characters to life on screen after 23 years. With recent Live Action films such as Beauty and The Beast and Cinderella. I think this one will be a huge hit.

There were rumours recently that Beyoncé was going to be playing the role of Nala. They confirmed this in the announcement and, I’m not too sure how I feel about that role. We will have to wait and see in 2019. I am, however, delighted to hear that James Earle Jones is coming back. He will always be Mufasa to me. I always felt they had to keep the old cast if they were ever going to remake it but, I can’t wait to see it with a new cast.  The first star to be announced was Donald Glover as Simba. He has been in a few big films recently such as Star Wars. I think he will make a good replacement from Matthew Broderick although, I do wish he was returning.

There are a few changes to character names that I have noticed. There is no one cast for the roles of Banzai and Ed who make up the famous Hyena trio with Shenzi (Florence Kasumba). Their names seem to have been changed to Azizi (Eric André) and Kamari (Keegan-Michael Key). Assuming these are the Hyenas, let’s hope they get more of a storyline.

Overall, I am happy with this announcement and I think it’s going to be quite a successful hit. What do you think about this new live action edition to the classic Disney films?
